Backpacking the Wye Valley
Next steps weekends are put together to be achievable first backpacking weekends for women who have previous camping experience and would enjoy a simple introduction or reintroduction to carrying their kit for a weekend.
Spaces are STRICTLY limited to 10 people including myself. Please check how many people are signed up before adding yourself as going. We will be operating a waiting list once the event is full.
We will be staying on a campsite in the Wye Valley (toilets and showers, £12.50 per person per night, paid on arrival).
Each day we will walk about 8 miles.
On Saturday we will following the River Wye north from Monmouth, through the beautiful Symonds Yat gorge. There will also be a ferry crossing across the Wye at Symonds Yat (approx £3 cash only). There will be one or two steep hills, but the majority of the route will be following the River itself so it will be fairly flat. (Approx 8 miles)
We will stay overnight at the Huntsham Bridge Campsite. They don’t usually take groups, but have agreed to accept us as we’re walking in. They have a STRICT no noise policy after 10pm which you will need to abide by as we’d like to be able to use the campsite again in the future.
On Sunday we will return back to Monmouth by a different route, this time a little further from the river. Again there will be some hills and we’ll take them slow and steady, and there aren’t too many. (Approx 8 miles).
We will have some kit available to loan if you’re short of one or two bits. Please comment on the event and we can chat through what we have available.
You will need
Clothes and shoes suitable for walking and the weather.
Tent, sleeping bag, bed mat, rucksack.
Food and a way to cook/prepare it.
Torch.
Spare clothes.
Personal first aid kit and medications.
