Walk the Lady Anne’s Way

Join a team of women hiking 100miles, self-supported, wild camping each night and following in the footsteps of history.

Lady Anne’s Way is a one hundred mile walk through limestone countryside of the Yorkshire Dales and unspoilt villages of the Eden Valley. This route is a tribute to Lady Anne Clifford, born in Skipton Castle 1590. She was the last in line of the Clifford family when her father died in 1605, but failed to inherit the estate because she was a woman. Instead, the estate was passed to her uncle and his male heirs.

Lady Anne then devoted her life to reclaiming and restoring her castles, churches, and monuments along this route in the 17th Century. From Skipton Castle in North Yorkshire, the path runs north to the ruins of Brougham Castle on the outskirts of Penrith.

This expedition will be led by qualified mountain leader and first aider, Anglea Owen. You will be working together as a team to organise your days, plan in breaks and work out suitable sleeping spots each night. There is lots of opportunity throughout the adventure for you to learn and improve your navigation skills and expedition craft.

Angela is also happy to cover topics like route planning and expedition organisation so you can use this as a confidence exercise leading up to going on your own adventure.

You will need to be suitably fit to cover the daily distances while carrying your own camping gear and supplies. Be prepared to take on tough days under expedition conditions with unpredictable weather.

Because you will be wild camping and will need to be discrete, we ask that you tent share where possible. If you would prefer to organise your own accommodation and not wild camp, there is an option to do so.

  • Sunday 27th May 2018 – Grassington to Buckden (12.5 miles)
  • Monday 28th May 2018 – Buckden to Hawes (18 Miles)
  • Tuesday 29th May 2018 – Hawes to Kirkby Stephen (17.5 Miles)
  • Wednesday 30th May 2018 – Kirkby Stephen to Appleby (16.5 miles)
  • Thursday 31st May 2018 – Appleby to Penrith (19.5 Miles)

Spaces are limited to 12 women. Price does not include drink, snacks, food or transport to and from the start and end point. You will also need to provide your own kit (suggested kit list below). Bookings include a non-refundable £60 deposit. There are no refunds for cancellations less than a month before the departure of the expedition.
