The Woods Expedition ‘rules’

The Woods expedition will see 10 women who have never met before surviving for 5 days in the woods with just basic gear. We want this to be a challenge so have set ourselves the below ‘rules’ to make sure we are pushing ourselves to the limit and seeing what we are really capable of as a team.

#1 Only absolute essential gear allowed

Each team member will be allowed to bring….
– Waterproof bag for all items
– 2 sets of warm clothing
– Waterproof jacket and trousers
– Sleeping bag
Alpkit Bivy bag (essentially a waterproof cover for your sleeping bag)
– A pair of Merrell Boots
– A small knife
– Pen and paper (for keeping a diary)

As a group, we will have the following items….
– Outdoor first aid kit
– Foraging guidebook
– A cooking pot
– Axe, folding saw and a large knife
– Toilet paper, shovel & antibacterial hand sanitizer
– 2 x large water containers
– Camera
– Flint

We will have a backup bag with us with the following supplies to be used only in the case of emergency or injury – clean drinking water, tent, tarp, roll mat, compass, lighter, emergency food rations, mobile phone & battery pack.

#2 We will only take basic rationed food

We have based our food rations on the supplies given to Syrian Refugees in Jordan. It makes for a bland diet and is below the recommended daily intake for adults. We will be looking to try and supplement our basic rations with food foraged in the woods.

Each teammate will receive the following rations for 5 days in the woods (note that we will not be eating breakfast on day 1 of the challenge when we head into the woods!)

  • 800g rice
  • 100g red lentils
  • 200g plain flour
  • 200ml vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tin of chickpeas
  • 1 tin of kidney beans

#3 We will have no contact with the outside world

Once a day, Bex will send a video/photo and an update to someone to post on the Love Her Wild social media pages to update followers. Apart from this, no phones are to be used and there will be no contact with the outside world.

#4 Nothing will be decided in advance

Although the team is in contact via a private Facebook page to finalise logistics for the expedition, no decisions in regards to the actual expedition (shelters to be built, appointing a leader, schedules, etc) are to be made until the team is altogether on day 1 of the Expedition.

The team will be sending updates from the woods during the expedition. You can follow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
