Plastic Island Sailing Expedition

**We are postponing this expedition due to the Coronavirus. Check back for more details later in the year!**

Join an all female Love Her Wild Crew for our second expedition on the sea! We will be running the trip in partnership with Sail Britain, combining a remote Scotland sailing adventure with conservation activities focusing on the ocean plastic pollution crisis.

The Plan

The expedition will start in Oban and end in Mallaig, on Scotland’s stunning west coast. We will spend the week learning how to sail an ocean-going vessel with the Sail Britain crew while exploring the beautiful lochs and islands. Along the way the team will be stopping at remote beaches to carry out beach cleans where land-based access is difficult. Our findings will be reported to local activists working in the Oban area.

This expedition will be a chance for you to expand your learning about the effects marine plastics and related environmental issues have on conservation, while considering the relationship they have to our own lives. There will be an opportunity to deploy the boat’s miroplastics gear to see first hand how human activities impact every aspect of the marine environment.

You will join the yacht on the evening of Saturday 27th June, aiming to finish sailing in Mallaig on Friday evening in good time for a farewell evening meal ashore before journeys home on Saturday 4th July.

What is life like on board?

Love Her Wild is all about compassion and keeping things fun. This really will be put to the test on a boat where you will be living and working in a small space! Just like any intense expedition environment though, you will have a memorable adventure while meeting like-minded women in the process. All to the backdrop of some of the UK’s most stunning views (and hopefully a few wildlife encounters!)

Though the yacht is beautiful and well equipped, it’s not a life of luxury! Privacy can be less than we are used to ashore, but it’s nothing to be worried about. We want you to be fully involved and to be a key part of a working team in a friendly, supportive and creative environment. Boat duties will be split amongst all crew members.

Who will be onboard?

This special expedition is being put together in partnership with Sail Britain. The trip will be led by Sail Britain’s professional crew, skipper and sailing instructor Oliver Beardon alongside a female First Mate, and six members of the Love Her Wild community.
