Nav Day

SATURDAY, 13 MAY 2023

Do you feel a lack of confidence when it comes to navigation? You aren’t alone! Our Wilder survey showed that a lack of skills and confidence (especially around navigation) was one of the biggest barriers to getting outdoors.

We want to do something about that!

So on the 13th May 2023, we’ll be brining hundreds of women together across the UK to learn navigation. These courses will be fun, informal and suitable for complete beginners or for those wanting to refresh their knowledge. And, like with any Love Her Wild event, you can expect a kind and supportive group waiting for you on arrival.

Navigation courses usually cost around £80 a day. We know that (now, more than ever!) not everyone has the luxury of spending this kind of money on a course which is why we’ll be charging just £15 for anyone wanting to join us on Nav Day!

This opportunity has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Fieri.

Fieri is a leadership development and people transformation provider to some of the most recognisable and ambitious organisations in the world. We are shaping the future in leadership development and enabling people and organisations to become extraordinary.

FREE OS Maps!

Thanks to our mapping sponsor, Ordnance Survey, the first 300 women to sign up for Nav Day 2023 will be eligible for a free OS Map.

Details of how to purchase your map will be sent to you after booking. Please do bring your map with you on course day as you will need it!

What to expect on the day:

This is a one-day course to give you the confidence and skills to safely navigate while outdoors. Expect lots of hands-on practice with opportunities to learn how to plan a route, read a map, use a compass, work out timings and orientate yourself when lost.

Don’t worry if you know nothing about the outdoors or navigation – we’ll start from scratch. You don’t need to be super fit to participate (we’re not going to be running any races!), but you should be comfortable being on your feet most of the day with a day pack, and able to walk comfortably for a few miles. If you aren’t sure about this or are feeling nervous, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

(Also, remember that most women will be signing up alone, so don’t worry about not knowing anyone there. That’s what Love Her Wild is all about!)

You’ll be supervised by a friendly and experienced guide throughout the day. Maps and compasses will be provided, but you will need to bring the following:

– Day bag suitable for carrying everything you’ll need for the day
– Comfortable hiking boots or shoes
– Waterproofs
– Warm layers (ideally a fleece and a jacket – if you know you get cold standing around perhaps also bring a beanie)
– 1.5 Litres of water
– Lunch and plenty of snacks
– (optional) a flask with a hot drink

If you don’t have the right gear and will struggle to cover the costs of getting kit, please do touch base with KitSquad who may be able to help you out!
