Spring Equinox Sunrise and Dawn Chorus walk
Spring Equinox – Sunrise and Dawn Chorus
Monday 20th March represents the Spring Equinox, when night and day are of equal length and we celebrate the return of the sun and longer days. Hoorah!!
To mark the day and get the week off to a great start, I’m offering a sunrise and dawn chorus wander.
We will set off from White Coppice Cricket ground, Chorley, Lancs at 6am. Free parking is available down a small road, leading to the cricket ground and marked as a cul de sac. You can park just after the nursery. The postcode is PR6 9DE. What 3 Words: adventure.landscape.catapult
Sunrise is at 6.13am. In the changing light we will wander up onto the higher ground with views over the moors and surrounding areas (you can see as far as the Irish sea on a clear day). Our route will likely take us over the tops for a short way and then descending through woodland and along the river to enjoy the birds and dawn chorus. I often see heron fishing along here. This morning will be about taking our time and enjoying the experience rather than going fast or far and we will take a short stop along the way to take in the morning and enjoy a hot drink and bite of breakfast.
The exact route and distance will depend on how we feel on the day…if it’s fine and dry we may take our time, and sit with a bru a little longer. If theres a chill then we may want to keep moving. So distance will be decided by us but I expect no more than around 5km and to take around 1.5 hours so we have plenty of time to get back to home or work for the day.
Many members attend on their own and if this is your first event with LHW then be assured that you will be given a warm welcome. So that we can focus on getting to know each other, the walk is not dog friendly on this occassion. And I should say that this is a volunteer led event and therefore everyone joins at their own responsibility.
I hope you can join us and I look forward to sharing this morning with you. Please click ‘Going’ on the event so I know who to expect and keep an eye on the Events page before the day in case of any updates.
What to bring:
– flask of hot drink and a bite of breakfast
– something to sit on for a short breakfast stop
