Introduction to Navigation
This is a one day navigation course led by Kirsty Robb from Wander Wild Scotland, a fully qualified and insured Mountain Leader and navigation instructor.
It is suitable for complete beginners to navigation but you will need to be able to spend all day out on the hills, including walking off path. This course is also suitable for people who want to refresh basic navigation skills.
The course will be held in the Ochil Hills. The exact location and meeting time will be confirmed closer to the time.
On this course you will learn:
• Different map types and scales available -1:50000 and 1:25000
• Setting the map
• Measuring distance on the map and on the ground
• Understanding timing to estimate distance travelled
• Identifying features on the map and on the ground
• Identification and use of “tick-off” and” catching” features
• Grid references and what they mean
• Basic compass use

COST: £50 per person (a donation from each booking will be donated to Ochils Mountain Rescue Team)
