GM Ringway Walk Stage 1 – Manchester to Sale

In celebration of the GM Walking Festival which is running from the 1st – 31st May, we’re going to walk Stage 1 of the GM Ringway from Manchester to Sale.

The route is 6.6 miles and Stage 1 uses towpaths, walkways, parkland and the Trans Pennine Trail to trace a largely traffic-free and tranquil route from the city centre to the verdant Mersey Valley.

The walk is expected to take 3-4 hours at an easy, social pace with plenty of opportunities to take a rest, have a snack and take photos.

Most of the paths are level, though there are steps when you leave the Bridgewater Canal, some short slopes along the canal, and a brief potentially muddy section in Turn Moss. Because of these factors, the complete walk is not wheelchair friendly.

We will meet at St Peter’s Square in Manchester (exact location TBC) at 10.30am. Our walk will finish at Sale Metrolink where we can get the metrolink back to Manchester or alternatively make your way home from Sale.

There are a number of toilet facilities on route and a cafe but I would advise you to bring some lunch and a drink just incase the cafe is closed.

Recommended Kit List –
Lunch
Water
Waterproof coat/pants
Warm Layer
Money for metro link

If you have a change of plan and are unable to make it on the day please can you let me know so we are not waiting on the day for anyone that cant attend, thank you.

Just a reminder this is a meetup led by volunteers for like minded people. Therefore you must be competent in your own ability to walk/swim and your own level of fitness. You will be responsible for your own health and safety. We would also ask that if you have any signs of illness that you do not attend on the day.
