Love Her Wild & Cicerone First Mountain Project
Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)– 1st August 2026
-
Who it’s for: Women who are beginners with no mountain experience.
-
The Goal: A safe, supportive, guided summit of a UK peak.
-
The Support: Funded places, expert female guide, and a “no-woman-left-behind” policy.
Finding an inclusive women’s hiking community
Have you always dreamed of climbing a mountain but have never had the chance or the confidence to take the necessary steps? Well, now is your opportunity to make this dream a reality. Love Her Wild is joining forces with Cicerone to bring you this funded opportunity to join our beginners mountain hiking for women project. We’re on the look out for women from all walks of life who have never before summited a mountain.
Apply to join this free guided mountain walk for beginners, and as part of a team we’ll take on your First Mountain together, whilst inspiring others in our community to take those big first steps too!
Not heard of Love Her Wild before? Check out our ‘about‘ page.
Teamwork
Our small team of 8 will be taking on one of the UK’s favourite mountains Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) – the highest mountain in Wales at 1,085 meters (3,560 ft), located in Eryri National Park. We’ll be taking in the views (assuming the clouds work in our favour!) and taking on the challenge together. Although you need to have a baseline fitness, this will not be a race. The pace will be slow and steady. The team supportive and non-judgmental.
This will be a full day hike and you’ll need to be prepared for all weathers.
This will be a tough day but the rewards when you reach the summit and the feeling of accomplishment will stay with you for a long time.
Can I climb a mountain with no experience?
This expedition is being led by the brilliant Jan Phillips. Jan lives in North Wales and is an experienced Mountain Leader. As a trusted partner for Love Her wild, she is passionate about getting more women outdoors and will be on hand throughout the journey to help get you ready.
Off the back of the success of our First Mountain project in 2019, we’re inviting more women to take part in 2026. Are you looking for the motivation and encouragement to take your first steps into adventuring! Are you ready to embrace the challenge this year?
The Route
Accommodation
Our friends at Base Camp Hostels are kindly supporting this expedition, which means we can offer our group one night of funded accommodation at their beautiful hostel in Betws-y-coed. This will be in a shared room with ensuite on the night of 31st July – ready to start your hike early the next morning.
Need to know
There will be 8 spaces available for this expedition. It will be free to apply, and you will be required to fill out an application form.
By applying you agree to the following:
– you must be a member of the Love Her Wild Facebook group
– you will be responsible for organising and covering the costs of your own transport to from the start location in Eryri National Park (Snowdonia)
– starting the hike with a baseline fitness and suitable health ready to complete a climb (if you are unsure about this the best person to ask is your GP)
– wearing warm and suitable outdoor clothing on the day of the hike (you should avoid wearing jeans or cotton as they take a long time to dry if they get wet….gym clothes work well for hiking and fleeces!) If financies are a barrier to purchasing suitable kit, consider buying second hand or applying to KitSquad.
– being photographed and interviewed for promotional purposes. This won’t dominate your day as any footage will be about capturing the story in an organic way
– being a supportive, patient and compassionate team member
Applications are now open!
Applications close on 22nd April 2026.
